What to expect
Where to find us
Our sessions are run every Thursday evening from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.
There is no fee for attending, but we do ask you to donate what you can into the donation box on the way in. This money is then used to help pay for the venue, refreshments, attending public events to raise our profile and to go towards activities to benefit the group such as mental health awareness training and courses, group therapy sessions and to pay for mental health speakers.
Talk Tonight – Selby C.I.C is a non-profit organisation, which means all the money we raise, is reinvested back into the group to benefit the members.
What to expect in a Talk Tonight – Selby C.I.C group session
The first time you attend, you will be welcomed and made to feel part of the group straight away. Every single person knows how it feels to walk through the door on their first night. When the session starts, a soft toy in the shape of a star is passed around and everybody is given the opportunity to talk, uninterrupted, about how their week has been, get rid of one negative experience, share one positive experience, and set a goal or achievement for the upcoming week. You will not be expected to join in until you are ready; even if it takes weeks you can simply pass the star along if you are not ready to open up.
Once everyone has had the opportunity to speak, we break off into free forming smaller groups and you have the chance to get to know people and ask questions and/or offer them support. We can guarantee you that everyone was nervous and apprehensive about the first time they entered the room, but every single person left feeling like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders and with a sense of relief that there are others out there who get what they’re going through. In fact, all our regular members now get excited every week for the group sessions and feel part of the Talk Tonight – Selby C.I.C family.
We are confident you will find the sessions useful but, so that you can trial it for yourself, you don’t pay a donation for attending on your first session.
If it’s not for you, we won’t be offended; different types of support therapies and structures work for some and not for others. There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to mental health!
